Provider Qualifications

AvMed physicians are in private practice or are faculty members at universities in the communities we serve. Still, our physicians pass a rigorous credentialing process to be accepted into the AvMed network. This helps AvMed determine that applicants possess the qualifications to provide quality of care consistent with the standards of their own professional organizations, as well as the standards of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and government agencies, both of which monitor the quality of service provided by AvMed. AvMed’s credentialing process includes an examination of the following:

• practice experience;
• licenses;
• certifications;
• hospital privileges;
• professional liability coverage;
• education; and
• professional credentials.

All AvMed physicians are reviewed at the time of the initial application and every three years thereafter. The vast majority of AvMed physicians are board certified or board eligible in their specialty.
