HEDIS Report Card
A
set of HEDIS (Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set) scores will
tell you what percent of an HMO’s members have had good care to prevent
different illnesses. High scores mean that a plan does a good job in
getting members and doctors to follow rules that prevent disease and
help people stay well. HEDIS is based on measures set by the National
Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA),
an independent organization that is not part of government and, like
AvMed, is not-for-profit. You can use HEDIS scores as one way to compare
HMOs. And whether you join an HMO or not, you can learn from HEDIS what
should be important to you to keep you healthy.
