Today’s health care industry faces increased scrutiny by the government as well as by patients, members and clients. Our actions and decisions are being evaluated daily by the community. One effective way for responsible organizations to address this challenge is through the development and implementation of compliance programs outlining the appropriate standards of conduct in this environment.

In an effort to assist the private health care community in addressing and combating fraud and abuse, the development of compliance program guidance has become a major initiative of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Recently, the OIG has developed and issued compliance program guidance directed at various segments of the health care industry, including managed care organizations. New OIG guidance is under development to provide clear direction and assistance to physicians providing services to Medicare and other beneficiaries who are interested in reducing and eliminating the potential for fraud and abuse within their practices.

AvMed’s policy is to conduct all of its business affairs and relationships with others with honesty, integrity, and high ethical standards. In order to provide standards of appropriate conduct for employees and associates of AvMed, the Board of Directors has adopted a Code of Business Conduct and has made a formal commitment to the Corporate Compliance Program. AvMed will strive to promote ethical and legal business conduct through the objectives and major principles underlying all of the compliance policies and procedures.

AvMed is committed to protecting member interests and corporate assets by detecting, investigating and preventing wrongful acts committed against the corporation. Pursuant to State and Federal Law, AvMed has established a rational, integrated, control-oriented anti-fraud program. AvMed consolidated its fraud and abuse/special investigative/revenue integrity functions with the establishment of the Fraud & Abuse Unit.
